Cultural Organization

We bring Africa to Life in Baltimore!! Sankofa Children’s Museum of African Cultures is a first-of-its-kind children’s museum in Baltimore. It was founded in 2016 in an effort to enrich and inspire Baltimore’s urban community’s cultural desert. Our mission is two-fold: (1) to educate, inspire, and connect children from all walks of life to the vast physical and cultural diversity of the African continent; and (2) to promote understanding through engagement with the arts, cultures, geography and history of the continent’s diversities and contributions to modern society. Our vision is to provide a multi-sensory educational experience in an environment for young visitors. Both children and adults have a fun and interactive learning experience which are crucial to reaching each child’s individual receptive needs. Our programs perfectly complement public school curricula and we invite all educators and School Coordinators to call and visit our museum to discover this hidden gem in Baltimore! In addition to our legendary tours, Sankofa Children’s Museum of African Cultures houses beautiful public gathering areas that can be used for cultural and art related events. Our goal is to create an environment where visitors are not merely spectators, but active participants. This is a place where African culture and art come to life.
