In this powerful residency, WombWork utilizes an arts-based model and approach to changing behaviors and attitudes and heighten students’ awareness about the very serious issue of Bullying. Students will receive professional performing arts training in basic theatre, creative movement, vocals while learning factual information about Bullying. This training provides creative vehicles as an alternative to aggressive behaviors.
The Virtues Project’s Strategy 1: Speaking the Language of Virtue will be the primary strategy for building and enhancing character among students. With factual information, character building strategies, through dialogue, rehearsals, and role-playing nonviolent solutions; students will create and present a culminating theatrical presentation based on their actual experiences as bystanders, assistant to bullies, and victims of bullying. We rely on the strength of the content of their presentation and the power of the student performers to engage their peers’ interest on many levels. The audience will enjoy the performances and connect with the message as well as the messengers (their peers) who speak their same language and understand how they feel.
