In this joyful performance / workshop Dan and Claudia teach the audience to sing a wide range of songs including Let Love Be Your Guide (for John Lewis), So Glad I’m Here, Coney Island Avenue, Wonder Wheel, Walkin’ Talkin’ Baltimore, Night Train 57, La Siren, and more.
In between songs, they speak about the legacy of African-American musicians like Lead Belly and Bessie Jones, the surprising history of the jaw harp, Brooklyn, New York’s most interesting street, a Haitian mermaid, the practice of non-violence, a train that flies into outer space when people make music together, and the often hilarious jazz vocal style known as scat singing.
In addition to all this, the audience will be invited to participate in various kinds of movement and use American Sign Language. This program includes instruments such as guitar, mandolin, flute, trombone, harmonica, and jaw harp. It can easily be modified for any age group from pre-K to middle school.
