This 4-5 day residency immerses the students in activities that give them a visceral understanding of light waves, and electrons. Students will answer the questions: What is light?; What are the different kinds of light?; and What is color? They will learn about what electrons are, how they move, how their movements affect magnetism and how their movements affect what colors a pigment absorbs. Students will conduct The Flame Test experiment. At least one spectrum based art activity will help them make the connection between the physics and art. High School Science standards (NGSS) HS-PS1-1, HS-PS4-1, HS-PS4-4 are addressed. Mulitple art activities will help them make the connection between the physics and chemistry and art.
