Making Connections (Middle School or High School)

This community-engaged theatre residency will connect the art form to issues of social justice and community development, while promoting the voice of our local youth. Everyman’s Teaching Artist will guide participating students through the creative process, facilitating opportunities to identify and explore themes of interest within their community and develop a cohesive performance ensemble. Students will then use these themes to learn and create through theatre. This experiential learning program will foster important life skills such as collaboration, confidence, communication, expression, focus, problem-solving, and accountability. The residency aims to bridge the art form with other disciplines and connect to the students’ own lives, promoting a shared experience in the arts. Through the Making Connections Residency, young people become young artists; they are given a voice and the empowered means to express it productively. Students will access and develop a range of skills (social/affective, cognitive, aesthetic, and metacognitive) that are imperative to the development of the whole child. The program will culminate in a final presentation for peers, friends, and family.
