What’s Blendies?
Explore symmetry and balance with a reconfigurable spinning top! Use primary color markers to optically “blend” secondary colors from patterns and color blocks. This workshop is built on the Blendies Spark from FutureMakers – a hands-on playful engineering project for classrooms. Each student receives their own package of prepared white cardboard parts – and engineers a unique symmetrical or asymmetrical top that spins, and add primary colors that “blend” optically into secondary colors.
STEAM concepts included:
Engineering design process.
Prototyping and inventing
Symmetry and it’s effects on balance.
Forces and interactions: turning and spinning.
Skills Built:
Self-motivation: persevere when trying new skills and taking risks
Develop Craft: practice combining materials to make new objects, explore with material combinations to produce a consistent result.
Student Materials include:
Die-cut cardboard blendie shapes, three colorful primary markers, wooden dowel, foam washers, and an instruction sheet in a reclosable bag.
Program Format and Pricing:
