SUSTAINABLE FASHION BROOCH-MAKING WORKSHOP
Guest Talent: Evette Monique Street of Evette Monique Couture.
Fiber Artist | Fashion Designer.
Workshop Host | Site Coordinator: Caprece Jackson, Bonneau Caprece Sustainable Fashion Workshop Series, est. 2018
Participants are simultaneously introduced to the world of Sustainable Fashion, Wearable Art, and Upcycling by creating a Sustainable Brooch out of shapes made from single-serve plastic water bottles – the most wasteful form of plastic on planet Earth. A stylish way to create a unique gift, and increase awareness about the emerging era of Sustainable Living. Wear them traditionally on lapels, jackets; style up backpacks, hoodies, and trucker hats, or make a wrist/arm bracelet.
Bonneau Caprece Facilitators provide participants with direction to create Brooch-base shapes they can choose from; and collaborate 1-on-1 with them throughout the creative process. Pre-cut shapes can also be provided, and several finished brooches will be displayed, along with table-top images of finished examples being worn. Participants can bring their own bottle, or one can be provided.
Embellishments: colorful beads and stones, pearls, rhinestones, flowers and feathers; and paint, when allowed on-premise at the workshop location – cups, water and paint palettes or small plates.
Supplies: Tweezers, scissors and glue guns, backings for earrings, clasps and hooks for necklaces and bracelets. Can add on a drying station, and small drawstring bags to store their creations.
Workshop Goals: to activate participants’ creativity, introduce them to Sustainable Fashion subset genres: Wearable Art and Upcycling: experience community in a “screen-free” environment, and increase awareness about the impact of waste produced by humans, and its impact on our planet.
