Annette Anselmi is the Executive Director of the Maryland Health and Higher Educational Facilities Authority, a financing conduit serving non-profit healthcare and educational institutions throughout Maryland. Prior to her current position, she served as Treasurer and CFO of the Maryland Environmental Service, Director of Finance of Baltimore County and Managing Deputy Comptroller of the City of Chicago. She has also been involved with pension and economic development consulting. Ms. Anselmi joined the AED Board in 2009.
Sylvia Brown grew up in Virginia and went to Howard University for undergraduate and Indiana University for graduate school. She has been an active volunteer in Arts and Education in Baltimore since retiring as a teacher. She mentored in an elementary school, served on the Center Stage Board (emeritus currently), The Seed School of Maryland’s Board, and has been on the Arts Every Day Board since its inception. Brown is currently on the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health’s Advisory Board and on the Cabinet of the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington.
Rosiland Cauthen has been working in theatre since 1995. Ms. Cauthen is a Teaching Artist, Arts Administrator, Freelance Director, and Community Artist. Currently, Ms. Cauthen is the Head of the Theatre Department at the Baltimore School for the Arts. Ms. Cauthen received her Master of Fine Arts in Theatre degree from Towson University in Towson, MD in 2005. While there, Ms. Cauthen focused on diversity in theatre, with a particular affinity for African-American theatre. Ms. Cauthen received her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from The College of Charleston in Charleston, SC in 2000. While in Charleston, Ms. Cauthen performed in several shows including The Colored Museum by George C. Wolfe, Blues for an Alabama Sky by Pearl Cleage and Machinal by Sophie Treadwell, just to name a few. Following Undergrad and Grad School, Ms. Cauthen worked as Director of Community Programs and Education for Center Stage in Baltimore MD. In this position Ms. Cauthen substantially grew the student matinee program, which brings about 10,000 students each year to see professional productions at Center Stage. She also developed curriculum, taught and directed productions with Encounter, the after-school theatre program for teens ages 14-18.
Jodi Dunn retired as Associate Vice-President of Nationwide Better Health, a subsidiary of Nationwide Insurance in 2011, where she was responsible for clinical, regulatory and contract compliance for disease, medical, and disability management product lines. She has held multiple health and human services leadership positions in both the public and private sector, and has been an active community volunteer since she moved to Baltimore in 1980. She has a Masters in Public Administration from the American University. Dunn joined the Arts Every Day Board in 2012.
Nancy A. Fagan began her thirty-year career with the Baltimore City Schools as a teacher at Furley Elementary School. As an administrator, Ms. Fagan became an Instructional Support Teacher supporting teachers in curriculum and best practices at two city schools. In 2001 she became Assistant Principal at Thomas G. Hayes Elementary School in East Baltimore. She has been Principal of Highlandtown Elementary/Middle School #215 for the past 11 years. Under her leadership the school was accepted into the Arts Every Day program in 2010. She joined the Arts Everyday Board in July 2012.
Cecil E. Flamer, Chief Administrative Officer, joined Brown Capital Management in 2004 and has been in the financial services industry for 44 years. Prior to joining Brown Capital Management Mr. Flamer was a partner at Ernst & Young, LLP. He holds a Bachelor of Science – Business Administration from Morgan State University and is a Member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants. Flamer was a member of the founding board of AED and served as Board Chair from its inception in 2006 until 2011. He continues to serve as a member of the board, executive, and finance committees as Former Chair.
Carolyn H. Freeland, Community Schools Consultant, Johns Hopkins University School of Education. She supports and mentors two Principals in City Schools. She retired as Principal of Mount Royal Elementary/Middle School in 2013. In her forty-three years with the school system she served as an elementary teacher, guidance counselor, department head, Assistant Principal and Principal. She also served as a member of the Maryland State Department of Education Arts Advisory Council for a number of years and is a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors (Retired). She supports several local arts’ advocacy committees aimed at increasing arts experiences for City Schools’ students. Carolyn is a founding member of the Arts Every Day Board of Directors.
David Gregory is a partner at McKennon Shelton & Henn LLP where he focuses his practice on public finance, commercial, corporate and business law. He has served as bond counsel in various transactions on behalf of health and educational institutions and general obligation indebtedness issued on behalf of various state and local entities. He has also represented borrowers in tax-exempt and taxable financings in the private placement arena. He has experience in advising companies on corporate governance matters, general business law issues and matters respecting commercial litigation and administrative proceedings. A graduate of Elon University and Villanova School of Law, Mr. Gregory joined the Arts Every Day board in 2014 and serves as Treasurer.
Antieris Johnson is a passionate problem solver and visionary who exists to be a catalyst for positive change. She received her B.A. degree in Integrated Arts from the University of Baltimore as well as her M.S. degree in Nonprofit Management and Social Entrepreneurship. Antieris is the founder of a Community Action Program (CAP) called Art Adopts a Child that seeks to raise awareness for adoption and help foster youth successfully transition into adulthood. In 2014, Antieris was honored with a Leading Women Under 40 award by The Daily Record for her work with Art Adopts a Child. Some of her accomplishments include an installation and dedication of a mural in Baltimore, and coordinating a tour of the White House in 2014 for youth in the KidsPeace Empowering Youth to Succeed mentoring program.
Mark K. Joseph is Founding Chairman of The Shelter Group, which began developing multi-family housing in 1975. He is also Chairman of MuniMae, a housing finance company. Prior to founding Shelter, Mr. Joseph was a member of the Community Legal Services law reform unit. He also chaired the Executive Committee of Gallagher, Evelius & Jones, LLP and taught at the University of Maryland Law School. Other leadership roles included: Baltimore City’s Deputy Housing Commissioner and as its Development Coordinator; headed the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners; and, was a founder of the Baltimore School for the Arts. Mr. Joseph has served on numerous private and public boards including the Walters Art Gallery, Associated Jewish Charities, among others. A graduate of Brown University and Harvard Law School, he is a founding member of the Arts Every Day board.
Brian D. Katzenberg is an attorney for Cohen, Snyder, Eisenberg & Katzenberg P.A. Mr. Katzenberg is dedicated to representing workers and individuals who have experienced injury on the job or elsewhere. Mr. Katzenberg lives in Baltimore City and is active in a range of volunteer organizations. In particular, he is co-chair of Courting Art Baltimore through the Bar Association for Baltimore City, which is an art contest that provides scholarships to Baltimore City high school students and installs their artwork in local court houses. Mr. Katzenberg graduated from the University of Virginia and earned his J.D. from the University of Maryland, School of Law.
Amanda Kodeck, Director of Education, Walters Art Museum, supervises the museum’s Education and Public Programs. She oversees cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural programs and interpretation initiatives to engage current and new audiences. She serves on staff teams to create strategic partnerships, grants, programs, technology initiatives, evaluation and exhibitions. Previously she served as the Assistant Director of Education and the Manager of School and Teacher Programs. She holds an MA in Art History from the George Washington University and an MS in Education, Museum Leadership from Bank Street College. She completed the Getty Leadership Institute’s Museum Leaders: The Next Generation. In 2012, Kodeck was awarded the Mid-Atlantic Region Museum Educator of the Year Award. Ms. Kodeck joined the AED Board in 2014.
Fred Lazarus is President Emeritus of the Maryland Institute College of Art. He retired in 2014 after serving as President for 36 years. He serves on the board of the Central Baltimore Partnership where he was the founding chair for five years. He also was a cofounder of the Baltimore Design School where he has served as chair since 2016. He was founding chair of Americans for the Arts, Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance and the National Coalition for Education in the Arts. In addition, he has served on a number of other national and Baltimore boards, some of which he chaired.
Dr. Frankie Martin retired from the Maryland Institute, College of Art (MICA) in 2008 as Director of Multi-ethnic Affairs where she developed and coordinated programs and services for International and Students of Color including the Mentoring Network. She was awarded MICA’S highest award, the Medal of Honor at the 2008 graduation. In recognition of outstanding service to students, the Dr. Frankie Martin scholarship was established. Her higher education career prior to MICA included administrative positions at Coppin, Bowie and Morgan State Universities. Dr. Martin joined Arts Every Day as a board member in 2012.
Ronald McFadden is a musician, educator, and advocate for educational equity in America’s urban communities. Reared in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Mr. McFadden is a classically trained baritone receiving his B.A. in Music, and his M.A. in Teaching degrees from Morgan State University in Baltimore. McFadden is currently the choral director & Chairperson of the Department of Performing Arts at Southwest Academy Magnet School for Science & Engineering in the Baltimore County Public School System and currently sits on the Baltimore City Public School Board of Commissioners. In addition to public education, Ronald maintains an active voice studio, and is an Associate Director with the Singing Sensations Youth Choir Inc. He is a member of the National Educators Association (NEA), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Maryland Music Educators Association (MMEA), and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America Inc.
Maggie McIntosh has served as a Member of House of Delegates since 1992. She chairs the Appropriations Committee and has been a member of many other committees focusing on a wide range of issues including human resources, public safety, education, economic development, higher education accessibility, and environmental matters. She began her career as an arts educator and has served as an instructor and administrator for the Baltimore City Public Schools, Catonsville Community College, Commission on AED Board 1/23/2018 4 Aging and Retirement Education; and Johns Hopkins University. Her public service and leadership have been recognized with numerous awards and citations. A graduate of Wichita State University and Johns Hopkins University, she has served on the Arts Every Day board since 2011.
Elizabeth M. Nuss retired as Vice President and Dean of Students from Goucher College in 2001. Prior to Goucher College, she served as Executive Director of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) where she played a key role in establishing the association’s presence in Washington, DC. The early years of her career in higher education were spent at The Pennsylvania State University, the University of Maryland, and Indiana University. Nuss began as a volunteer for Arts Every Day in 2010 and joined the Board in 2014.
Anne Perkins has enjoyed a distinguished public service career serving as a Special Master for the United States District Court; as an elected representative to the Maryland House of Delegates; as Director of the Xiamen, PRC, Teacher Training Program and a summer language camp for Baltimore and Chinese high school students; as Program Officer/Consultant for the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs in South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Malawi and Liberia; and, as the Vice-President for Governmental Affairs at University Maryland University College. She has a BA from Boston University, a JD from the University of Baltimore Law School and studied at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. In a volunteer capacity, Perkins serves on the Board of Trustees of The Maryland Institute College of Art and Open Society InstituteBaltimore, and many other Baltimore commissions and boards. She is a founding member of Arts Every Day and serves as Board Chair.
Dr. Shyla Rao is a sculptor, art educator, and arts education advocate. She currently is the Principal at City Neighbors Hamilton Elementary School. She previously served as Director of the Master of Arts in Teaching program at MICA and believes in arts education as a form of social action that empowers young people to critically engage with their place in the world. For almost 20 years, Dr. Rao has worked with young learners in Baltimore City and New York City. With an interest in arts education practices from an international perspective, Dr. Rao has taught college/graduate level education courses and teacher development programs in Baltimore, New York, Singapore, Tokyo, and Kingston Jamaica.
Maria Rodriguez is an employment, business and commercial litigator with experience in pharmaceuticals, employment, trade secret, business tort and libel cases. She is also a member of Venable’s appellate practice group and has handled appeals before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, the Maryland Court of Appeals and the Third, Fourth, Ninth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals. In the past few years, Maria has obtained asylum for many immigrants, including unaccompanied minor children. Fluent in Spanish, and broadly educated (American Literature and History, Psychology, and Law), Maria brings a wide frame of reference to her work with Venable clients. Her writing skills were recently recognized when she was named to be and served as editor-in-chief of Litigation magazine.
Bart Savidge has worked in Baltimore since 1994 for First National Bank of Maryland, Legg Mason, A.G. Edwards and Wells Fargo. Since 2009, Mr. Savidge has been a AED Board 1/23/2018 5 Managing Director at M&T Securities and provides tax-exempt funding solutions to healthcare and community-based not for profit organizations. Mr. Savidge has served on the boards of Franciscan Youth Center, Board of Child Care, and Towson United Methodist Church.
Anne South is the retired Director of Office of Events at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA.) Ms. South also served as the Event Coordinator for MICA’s Development Department. Previously, Ms. South was the owner of L.A. South Special Events Management with clients including CollegeBound Foundation, Maryland Jockey Club, and National College Access Network. Ms. South was also the Executive Director of Maryland Citizens for the Arts, Inc.
Anne Marie Stringer is a strategic digital creative leader on the Global Customer Experience Marketing team at Stanley Black & Decker. Prior to her current position, Anne Marie gained creative leadership experience at some of the top advertising agencies in Baltimore. Anne served as board secretary for the Potters Guild of Baltimore and has been an active member/owner for over a decade.
Christian Ventimiglia is a Portfolio Manager at Brown Advisory, responsible for the management of private client, endowment and foundation investment portfolios and strategies. Prior to joining Brown Advisory in 2013 he served as a Client Service Associate for the Private Bank at JPMorgan Chase. He received his MBA from Loyola University in 2016 and Bachelor’s degree in 2010. He is an awardee of Living Classrooms’ “Rising Star” Class of 2019, alumni member of the GIVE Fellowship program in 2018, and remains actively involved in United Way’s ELU volunteer program. He is also the founding member of a local blues/jazz/rock band “Wide-Eyed Lounge Cats” and actively performs in Baltimore City. He joined the Arts Every Day board in 2015.
Harold Watson is a Baltimore City Music Teacher at the Commodore John Rodgers Elementary Middle School. Harold graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and a Masters in Secondary Education and Instrumental Conducting. He also holds a Certificate of Reading from Towson University. He has been in education for 24 years teaching Band, Orchestra and Theater. Harold also served as a Vice-President for the Nassau Music Educators Association and continues to perform professionally as a musician. He has been involved with Arts Every Day as an educator since 2008 and joined the board in 2014.
