Grammy Award winning performer Dan Zanes and Haitian-American jazz vocalist / music therapist Claudia Zanes make uplifting music for audiences of all ages. Their highly interactive concerts and workshops feature old and new songs from near and far presented in a manner that is engaging, inspiring, and ultimately educational.
Using voices, guitar, flute, trombone, harmonica, and jaw harp, the two give historical context to various forms of social music from sea shanties to gospel, Haitian folk to blues, and include original songs as well. Dan and Claudia believe in joyful communal expression – group singing, movement and dance, as well as sign language, are a part of every performance.
In these times when much of the music making is left to the professionals, it’s not at all unusual for people to leave a Dan and Claudia concert thinking “Yes, it’s possible for me to make music, too!”
Dan and Claudia release their music on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings and tour internationally. Time Magazine called Dan Zanes “The family-music genre’s most outspoken and eloquent advocate.”
