CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAM

Students explore creativity and self-expression while learning basic clay techniques to design and create their own functional or decorative piece, such as a trinket tray.

The experience incorporates mindfulness and encourages students to slow down, focus, make creative choices, and express themselves through art. Students will work at their own pace while developing confidence in their creative abilities.

The program creates a calm, supportive environment where students can explore the connection between creativity, self-expression, and mindfulness.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

• Explore basic clay and sculpting techniques
• Develop fine-motor and creative skills
• Practice patience, focus, and mindfulness
• Make independent creative decisions
• Explore self-expression through art
• Practice problem-solving and design thinking
• Create a unique handmade piece they can be proud of

Recommended Grade Levels

Grades 3–8 (The project and level of instruction can be modified to accommodate elementary and middle school students.)

Program Length

60–90 minutes

Room Setup Needs

Tables and chairs arranged with enough workspace for each participant.

Students will need a flat work surface and access to water for basic clay work and cleanup.

A designated area or trays for finished pieces to dry is recommended.

Attendance

Groups larger than 25 students may be accommodated with planning and may require additional instructors, materials, or multiple sessions.

Mindful Flames Creative Experience recognizes that every school and youth organization has different needs. Programs can be customized based on:

• Available classroom space and resources

HOST ORGANIZATION & PROGRAM PROVIDER RESPONSIBILITIES

Mindful Flames Creative Experience Provides:

• Qualified program instructor/facilitator
• Program planning and instruction
• Student materials and supplies included within the selected program package
• Hands-on activity materials
• Age-appropriate instruction
• Cleanup of program materials and work area
• Advance communication regarding program requirements
• Adaptation of activities based on grade level and student needs

Host Organization Provides:

• Appropriate classroom or program space
• Tables and chairs
• Student attendance/group information before the program
• Access to water/sink when required for the selected activity
• Designated area for drying or storing student creations when applicable
• On-site staff support and student supervision
• Any facility-specific safety requirements or procedures
• Advance notification of any relevant room, scheduling, or student considerations

For activities involving heat, open flame, food preparation, or other specialized equipment, safety requirements and facility procedures will be discussed in advance.

GROUP SIZE & GRADE-LEVEL CONSIDERATIONS

Because Mindful Flames programs are hands-on and interactive, group size and grade level are important to the success of each experience.

We recommend providing the student grade level and anticipated attendance when scheduling.

Activities may be modified based on the developmental level of the students. Elementary and middle school students may participate in the same general program while receiving different levels of instruction, discussion, and challenge.

For larger groups, Mindful Flames may recommend multiple sessions, additional instructors, or a rotating station format to maintain a high-quality student experience.
