Theater is your classroom.
Student Matinees are an opportunity for students of all ages to experience professional theater in a performance all their own. All Student Matinees are followed by a post show discussion with the actors.
Skeleton Crew (the third play in Dominique Morisseau’s acclaimed Detroit trilogy) tells the story of four workers at the last exporting auto plant in Detroit struggling to survive as their way of life disappears. Set around 2008, this play vividly portrays the modern struggle in a changing America, and reveals the real people on the factory line. This skeleton crew—the bare minimum number of staff needed to function—is made up of people who keep the vital operations of the plant running in the face of obstacles, rumors, and, eventually, the confirmation of their worst fears.
Student matinee performances are not edited or adapted for young audiences; students get the whole performance, uncut. Tickets for these special matinees are just $15.
To further the learning experience, pre/post-performance workshops are available for purchase with your tickets. These workshops are held in selected schools and are led by our teaching artists. They allow for an in depth view into the production process, thorough discussion and reflection, and a chance to discuss careers in the arts. For more information on pre/post show workshops, please email education@centerstage.org.
