The Art of Radio Play (Middle School or High School)

Currently experiencing a revival due to digital recording technology, radio plays are works of theater that are intended to be heard and not seen. This residency offers an opportunity to explore the basics of playwriting and the art of sound design. Beginning with old radio programs and live foley, students will explore writing for radio, recording methods, and the revision process. At the end of our time together, we will turn off the lights and hear the complete program of finished pieces. If laptops and microphones are available, the residency can be extended to include lessons on digital recording and editing.
