Verbatim Theatre Project (Middle School or High School)
Guided by a teaching artist, students will explore a social issue or event by interviewing community members and creating a script based on their words. Verbatim, or documentary, theatre allows the creator to engage directly with first-person accounts of history, sociology, or politics. Students will research, plan, interview, transcribe, and create a final script sourced entirely from their fieldwork. This residency encourages students to look directly at their own community and find the stories therein. It will culminate in a staged reading of the scripts for friends, family, and interviewees. Can be linked to social studies or history curriculum as desired by classroom teacher
