Maura Dwyer: Designing the Message: Communicating through Collage
$2,000.00

In the classroom, teachers and students will start by identifying an idea to express or problem to solve in their community (It may be environmental, like a lack of trees or healthy soil, a need for clean water – or social, like a need for cross-cultural understanding, a lack of peer support, gender/age/race/ability discrimination, identity exploration – it could also be aesthetic, like an empty lot or interior space that needs some help).

Following two days dedicated to brainstorming, design exercises, research, and collecting and discussing solutions, we will spend the remainder of the residency designing illustrated posters to express the class’ ideas. At the end of the residency, students will have a better idea of the role designers play in shaping our world, and will have a beautiful, collaged poster to hang in the school or take home that clearly expresses their perspective. An entire poster series can really make a statement!

*This residency may act as a jumping-off point for a larger student-led project in social studies, language arts, science, or arts classes. Alternatively, if a school desires a collaborative mural with a similar design-process, please let Young Audiences know because the materials and schedule changes slightly with large-scale murals.

This event is no longer available to book.
