The West Baltimore Mural Tour is a powerful 2-hour walking journey through a neighborhood rich in cultural history and vibrant with community-driven art. This tour highlights landmark sites like The Avenue Bakery, known not only for its famous rolls but also for its stunning modular murals that celebrate African American history and civil rights. Students will explore a neighborhood alive with creativity, including numerous YouthWorks mural projects (featuring one by Amy Sherald) that give voice to the next generation of Baltimore artists. The tour also introduces rising talent like Kid Balloon, whose bold transition from graffiti to large-scale murals brings fresh energy to the streets, and features a special highlight—Megan Lewis’s joyful, empowering depictions of Black women in her distinctive cartoon-inspired style. This field trip is ideal for educators seeking a meaningful and visual way to connect students with local history, youth empowerment, and the evolving language of street art.
