What’s a Drawbot?
Engineer a kinetic sculpture that is designed and built to draw! Your students will love buidling their own version of a hands-on, electric, wiggling, re-buildable drawing machine – that goes home to keep!
In one virtual visit, students will
– engineer a machine that can stand, move and draw – using a battery, a motor, and common craft materials.
– explore basic concepts of electricity, motors and their role in kinetic artwork
– define how a circuit can be opened or closed
– identify how mechanical vibration makes objects move (and even draw!)
– middle school students explore design variables (weight, balance, height, angles of incidence, and tension) and how they affect the performance of their drawing machines.
All drawbot materials arrive individually packaged in a hands-on kit that includes everything a student needs. A FutureMakers coach visits your classroom virtually – and is your buddy in leading
You need only provide a computer with a webcam, microphone, speakers, and a design challenge mindset!
This is also a popular professional development session for STEAM-focused teachers.
