Arts Every Day was fortunate enough to be considered as a Bloomberg Arts Intern worksite for the 3rd summer in a row! This summer was a little different as the internships needed to be adapted to be fully online.
Citlalle Tufino-Amaro, a talented rising senior from Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School, was able to experience how arts organizations worked together to change the way we work during a pandemic, she witnessed teacher professional development in action, and learned about audience engagement in a digital age.

“Hi, my name is Citlalle Tufino-Amaro and I am a rising senior at Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School. Some things about me is I am a shy person, love drawing, enjoy listening to music, and I like giving people advice. Thanks to the Bloomberg Arts Internship Program, I was able to have a spot at Arts Every Day where I worked 3 days a week. Because of Covid, the internships were shifted to virtual. This virtual experience has helped me learn more about Baltimore City’s art scene, Arts Every Day, and myself.
I learned so many things during my internship at Arts Every Day. I learned about the 10X10 Exhibit, about other art organizations around Baltimore, learned about social media platforms, and I got to be a part of the Baltimore Summer Arts Passport program. I got to participate in the 2020 Summer Arts Integration Virtual Conference, which is professional development for teachers, and it was very interesting to see. It was nice seeing Arts Every Day work together with so many other organizations and artists to help keep the arts going in schools.
My task this Summer was to use my creative skills to make designs for Arts Every Day or upcoming events happening in the city to inform the community. My supervisor gave me a few lessons on how to use Adobe Illustrator and Canva which made designing on a computer so much easier. When I first started, I didn’t think I’d be able to learn virtually but after giving it a try, it was very easy and fun. I was familiar with the Adobe apps but I wasn’t very good at designing because I didn’t know how to use it properly. I can finally now say I have improved my skills during this summer and I’m surprised how fast I learned everything. I know these skills will benefit me in my Graphic Design career.
This internship did help me grow as a person and it helped me learn more about myself. Communicating and stepping out of my comfort zone is something I’ve always struggled with but luckily this internship has helped me grow out of my shell to speak on my thoughts and ideas. In the past, I was never confident in my digital work but being at Arts Every Day helped me gain confidence and to be proud of my work. I did learn a lot about the great opportunities in Baltimore City and I feel honored that I got to be a part of this organization and that I got to make designs promoting the great things going on around me.
Overall, my experience at Arts Every Day was very fun, interesting, and challenging at times. I’m very thankful that I was chosen to be a part of this amazing opportunity and that I got to bring along my skills to this organization. I got to this organization with little knowledge and I’m leaving with a great learning experience. I know that this learning experience will benefit me in the future and will help me out with my future career. If I could do this again I would but actually be there in person to get the full experience!”
