At Arts Every Day, we talk a lot about serving as a catalyst for creative learning. What that means to us is that we build and sustain long-term partnerships with schools, artists, and cultural institutions while working to connect and empower teachers as leaders within their school communities.
“Empowering teachers” means making sure they have the tools, resources, and professional development they need to bring the arts into their classrooms. One of the most important ways we do this is through our Summer Arts Integration Conference. Every summer, we bring teachers, arts organizations, and teaching artists together to share ideas and techniques that strengthen our school communities through the arts. This summer, we are adapting to our environment, going digital, and hosting our annual conference online! This will not only keep us and our teachers other safe but will also make this content accessible to colleagues everywhere. We are excited to bring educators together this summer and are now opening up the opportunity for facilitators to present by holding a call for arts integration session proposals! General
Arts Every Day, a Baltimore-based arts organization, seeks to strengthen learning by making arts education and cultural experiences an integral part of classroom instruction for all students in Baltimore City Public Schools. We work directly with 42 partner schools, providing per-student funding for arts activities as well as teacher training in arts integration, in order to empower students as creators and ignite their imaginations.
Our flagship teacher training event is an annual summer arts integration conference, in which we share best practices from the field of arts integration and equip teachers with practical tools and techniques in the arts for their classrooms—whether they teach English/Language Arts, Math, Science, or Social Studies.
In August 2020, we are presenting our inaugural virtual conference. Through pre-recorded sessions, live discussions and studio sessions, we hope to spark teachers’ creativity, help jumpstart their classroom planning, and foster a warm and supportive community of teacher-learners who are site experts in arts integration.

Session Structure
Pre-recorded “course” sessions will be led by a teaching artist or master teacher and will be hosted on an online course/learning management system. These sessions will approach a learning goal in a core subject area (ELA/Math/Social Studies/Science) through the lens of a specific arts discipline (Visual Arts/Music/Theatre/Dance/etc.) Content and learning outcomes should align with the corresponding State Standards and curriculum (if applicable) utilized by the Baltimore City Public School District:

Sessions should include an interactive 1 hour presentation broken up over several video/media components and an assignment for 1 hour of independent work. See example below:
1 hour Course Outline Example
- Introduction
- 2 minute video introduction overviewing the course outline
- Coordinating outline handout in PDF
- 1st key concept
- 3-8 minute video from the speaker introducing and demonstrating concept
- PDF handout with concept summary, examples for adaptation by grade level, alignment with standards
- 2 minute video reinforcing concept with coordinating slides
- Additional key concepts with similar format (number of concepts will vary from topic to topic)
- Final “quiz” for participants with reflective questioning
Assignment for Independent Work: Prompt for 1 hour of independent work. May include lesson adaptation, accommodations for specific classroom needs, development of a classroom artifact, and so on. Participants will upload their work in the form of a lesson or artifact upon completion of the course.
Facilitator Requirements
Session leaders must have reliable access to high-speed internet and the ability to use their own devices to record video and audio.
Selected session leaders for each course will provide:
- A series of videos, each approximately 3-8 minutes in length, in which the presenter introduces and walks through the workshop’s content. Total course time: approximately 1 hour. Video format: .mp4
- A written outline of the course workshop. Format: .docx and .pdf
- All handouts associated with your course. Format: .docx and .pdf
- Your presentation deck or slides. Format: .pptx, .odp, or .pdf
- Any other digital media or content included in your course
- An assignment for participants to apply their new arts integration knowledge to another module in their own curriculum. Recommended time for assignment completion: 1 hour.
- A brief biography and headshot for publication with the conference agenda
Payment
Teaching artists/teachers who create pre-recorded video “course” sessions will be paid $600.

May 22: Request for Proposals announced
June 15: Deadline to submit proposals
June 22: Presenters notified by Arts Every Day
July 24: Deadline for presenters to submit content to Arts Every Day
July 25-31: Facilitators and AED staff finalize content
August 10-14: Arts Institute Virtual Conference Sessions
Submission Guidelines
All applicants must complete the Arts Every Day online submission form. Supplemental application materials should be uploaded through the form as well.
For consideration as a session leader for a pre-recorded “course,” the form asks you to submit a CV, any examples of your teaching on video, an abstract of no more than 150 words, and a brief workshop outline for your proposed session. It should use arts integration to address a learning goal in a core subject area as well as an arts discipline. In your outline, please indicate approximate lengths for the videos that will comprise your course, as well as the types of materials and handouts you will require. Further questions are provided in the online submission form.
Please submit all materials via the Arts Every Day online submission form no later than June 15.
